Tesla Wall Charger

Garage Installation of Tesla’s Gen3 Wall Connector Chargers & Other 3rd Party EV Charging Systems.

Tesla’s Gen3 Wall Charger is an essential companion for Tesla owners, allowing convenient and speedy charging at home. Unlike the mobile connector, which provides 20-30 miles of range per hour, the Wall Charger delivers up to 44 miles per hour, ensuring your vehicle is ready when you need it. Here’s a brief rundown on the installation process:

Step 1: Determining the Right Spot

Choosing the right location for your Wall Charger is crucial. It should be close to your parking spot and within reach of the charging cable. Bear in mind that Tesla recommends an installation location that minimizes the need for long, complex conduit runs.

Step 2: Hiring a Professional Electrician

While the installation steps are straightforward, they involve high voltage electrical work. To ensure safety and comply with electrical codes, it’s highly recommended that you hire a professional electrician with experience installing EV chargers.

Step 3: Acquiring Permits

Before the installation, check with your local government if you need permits for the Wall Charger installation. This step may vary depending on local regulations.

Step 4: Setting Up Electrical Circuits

The Tesla Wall Charger requires a 240-volt circuit, which is typically installed in your home’s electrical panel. Depending on your Tesla model and desired charging speed, the circuit breaker’s rating can range from 15 to 100 amps. The electrician will install this circuit and run the necessary wiring from the panel to the chosen Wall Charger location.

Step 5: Installing the Wall Charger

The electrician will securely mount the Wall Charger to the wall, ensuring it’s in a covered and well-ventilated area to prevent overheating and exposure to weather elements. The electrical wires are then connected to the Wall Charger following Tesla’s installation manual.

Step 6: Testing the System

Once the installation is complete, it’s time to test the system. Power up the Wall Charger and plug it into your Tesla vehicle. The charger should indicate that it’s charging the vehicle, and you should also see a corresponding charging display inside your car.

Step 7: Registering the Charger

To benefit from features like load balancing and remote firmware updates, register the charger in your Tesla account.
